The concept of the Virtual Time Capsule came to me when

I lost my grandfather…

“He passed away from a sudden heart attack my freshman year of college, and his death shook my world. I’m the oldest grandchild, so I spent a lot of time with him growing up. As we were planning for his funeral, I realized that even though we had a ton of pictures and videos of him throughout his life, I realized the stories he use to tell me also died with him that day. My younger cousins would come along and know the concept of “grandpa” and see all his pictures, that would be it. He would never have a chance to make an impact on their lives like he did for me. Over time, he will become a distant memory and ultimately end up being forgotten. I couldn't let that happen, so I took some time and developed a fun experience capturing all the ups and downs through life and that would allow people to capture their stories the way they want them told with the focus of creating lasting memories for years to come.”

- Rob Glaser, Founder and CEO of Virtual Time Capsule

This picture is special to me because this was the last conversation I ever had with him. I was Facetiming him and my grandma to show them my dorm room, when something came over me to take a screenshot of our conversation “because you never know what could happen”. Two days later, he passed in his sleep from a heart attack, and I never got the chance to say goodbye.

The Story Behind the Design:

We’ve spent a lot of time in the development of our logo and take pride in the reasoning behind it.

  • The Lock represents our promise and dedication to continuous security and encryption of all VTCs.

  • The Camera represents how we capture the memories of our lives and preserve them for later. If pictures say a thousand words, videos tell volumes about the roller coaster of our lives.

  • The Cloud represents the span of life- From Birth to Death and Beyond. From left to right, the bumps represent the past, the present, and the future. With the thought being "if you live too much in the past, you’re depressed. If you’re always focusing on the future, you’re anxious. But if you live in the present, you’ll be happier and more grateful, creating a gift.
